Title: Restore Underway!
Post by: John3407 on May 22, 2010, 12:31:57 AM
I just dropped my 79 TA off at the boddy shop to get the restoration underway. I interviewed several body shop owners and I foundly found someone that , not only did I like his price, but he actually spent real time going over every piece of the cars body to tell me exactly what needed to be done. I'll be without my baby for over a month, but I have all ready seen pictures of the TA being stripped and the metal work that is being done. While it is away, I am still trying to piece together interior parts such as the front tan seat belts. I contacted a guy on 78ta.com, but once I told him exactly what I needed, I never heard from him again.

No, it wasn't you. I am looking for the front seat belts for my Trans Am. It has the hobnail tan interior, so I am looking for the seatbelts in tan. I found a company that sells full sets for $400, but I am thinking that is way too much.

I wish I knew what you were talking about. Unfortunately my talents lie in entertainment and not car rebuilding. I am paying a fair amount to have someone else do the work. I have seen their work on classic cars though and it is very impressive. I will ask your questions though.

Whos doing your restoration and where are they located? I can't find a body shop anywhere willing to take on a project like yours.

SR2H Paint and Body shop on W. 18th St, Cheyenne, WY. I really like the people there. The main guy, Jesse, took almost a half an hour going over EVERY piece of  the car. He showed me every problem area and told me everything he would do.  No one else took that kind of time and some of the estimates were beyond ridiculous.

Any word on some tan seat belts for the front? I have a feeling that they may have to come out of a 78.

no word yet. I'll pm him again.  78 will work other then the date tag.  or does 78 look like 77 belts.  if so you'll need 79-81 stile.

New front spoiler ordered, and my car now sits with a blue guide coat on it. More news on the positive side: DuPont gave us a formula for Solar Gold so that we can spray her with a base coat/ clear coat application instead of the one step Centauri that was available!! ;D

That's great news!!  If the car can go back to its original color, it's always worth more!

Oh the torment of having a nice car. Paint and body work were done. New glass going in. Seats are done and THEN my idiot neighbor backer her truck into the front end. SO now back into the shop next Monday. ARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I did decide to stay with the black seat belts since that is what the build sheet says she was born with.

to bad on the fender bender, that sucks.

good call on the belts.  I love the look of camel with black belts and steering column. I think it really pops.
