What motor is it ?
« on: November 24, 2006, 10:13:55 AM »
We have just bought a 1981 TA Turbo. The original motor has been replaced at some time by a non turbo motor. How do I tell what year and cubic inch it is and any other info telling me what I have ? Where are the identifcation marks on the motor? Thanks.

check out this page for some info on some of the Pontiac engines codes/numbers: http://www.78ta.com/enginecodes.htm .  You can also look on the bottom drivers side of the engine and you might see something like "403", "400", or "455" cast into the block as well.

That Hitman page circles a code on the block and labels it "cast" . Sure looks to be "stamped" to me ?   Earl

No, I label it "Casting Code", not cast.  The Casting code is like the date code for the engine and it is stapmed.

SD-455 Dave.... I am not sure I understand your question.... are you asking if it is a RAM AIR IV engine, or are you asking if it is original to the car?
