Carpet and seat cover restoration
« on: November 03, 2009, 05:26:34 PM »
I 've got a 1984 Trans Am...black/gold.....Got most of the exterior finished. I want to begin starting on the interior. I want new carpet and new seat covers. Where is the best place to go to get these. I know there are some on Ebay and the web, but I want some input from members.  PS...I'm not expired!!!

My gosh, what a BEAUTIFUL job!  That car looks fantastic!  A lot of the place to get seats is going to depend on what kind of seats you have.  I can't see from the photos whether you have the Lear-Seiglers, PMDs, or Recaros.  Basing the probability, I'm guessing you have  Lear-Seiglers.

Classic Industries sells a really nice replacement set, but they're pricey and don't always have the exact fabric texture.  The upside is that you can get the hog-ring pliers and hog rings from them (and I would HIGHLY recommend it).  Hawks is a little less expensive, but they may or may not have exactly what you need.  The upside there is that their covers are usually identical (or pretty darned close) in fabric textures.  Shop around and see what you find, but don't install them until you KNOW you're thrilled.

You can also check "Stock Interiors".  Their carpet is fantastic!
