Question about braking system
« on: November 25, 2009, 09:23:59 AM »
I've got a question as to what could be wrong with my braking system.  I have a 1978 Trans Am with Drums in the back and Disc up front.

My Problem is as follows:
I have no brakes, basically my pedal is nice and Firm when the car is off. (It acts like it should), but the minute you start up the car the pedal goes soft and goes to the floor.

Now what I've done is:
Replaced the drums (Shoes, Springs, Soleniod)
Replaced brake line from Master Cyl to Rear of Car
Replaced Disks (Pads, Caliper, & Rotors)
Replaced the two lines that go from the master

I did not replace my two lines on the front brake side...
I did what I thought was the proper bleed job on the lines, this being what I was told and read I did.

Does anyone have any clue with what could be wrong????

Thanks in advance...

You need to replace the master cylinder. They are about $25.00 at O'reilly auto parts. Cheap fix.

Just wondering if you got your brakes working correctly.

does you motor have a big cam in it. or one with a lope to it. if so you need to check the vacuum presser. make sure you have no leaks and all vacuum lines are good.
