First let me start by saying I am a true Trans am lover, I just purchased my 8th T.A and I am so excited but it is giving me a problem that I need help with. When I am going up hills with speed it is jerking and the check engine light is flashing, also trying to go up a small upgrade hill from a stop today I lost all power I was only going about 2 to 5 mph...it was sad...once I get over the grade she smooths out and does well..Is there anyone who can help me with this?  :( By the way I have the 5.7 engine with Ram Air and it has 155,000 miles on it. I just picked it up Monday afternoon, So if anyone else has had this problem please let me know what you done to fix it!
Thanks,
Karen

I had a similiar problem with my 85 TA. It turned out to be the Mass Air Flow Sensor going out.  You may also want to check all of your vacuum hoses.

Karen:  Two words--COIL PACKS!

I have a '98 Firebird and had a lot of trouble with the Coil Pack thing.  When you said your Check Engine Light was "flashing" when you were going up hills, that rang a bell with me.  Hopefully, this helps!

TA Lover,

Kelly Powell

Also, don't forget that the plate the coil packs sit on can go bad too and will cause your car to miss.  I went through that too! :(

I had this problem with a 96 Camaro. It ended up being a week coil. But first I would run the codes you are throwing. If you don't have a scanner, your local Autozone will run it for free and give you an idea. Secondly it could be fuel pump about to go out. I would check your fuel pressure, coil, plugs and wires. But first place to start would be get it scanned to point where your problem is lying.

My 96 was throwing an EGR code and a MAF high and a MAF low. Along with multiple cylinder misfires.
