Need info on 1984 Firebird L.E.
« on: April 04, 2007, 10:01:17 PM »
Hi, I recently purchased a 1984 Firebird 500 LE, the placard on the dash indicates its number is the 500 built. I was wondering if it would be possible to get any other info on the car, as far as how many are left, and what the production numbers were for the different driveline combo's, or if there were any driveline combo differences? It has a stock 305-4bbl, auto., not an HO engine. Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.

HI: Byron

I Want To Know! // ME!

Year   Total Production      Firebird             Firebird S/E           Trans Am
1984       128,304                62,621                10,309                    55,374

Trans AM Recaro           Trans Am 15th. Ann. T/A
      1,321                                 1,500

That is a real good question?? ///

That is a difficult question to answer given the fact that some have been scraped, some are on cinder blocks ie. mothballed in storage, // an are un-licensed // And of course if the car is un-licensed “The Car Does Not Exist”, Some are in auto-bone Yards waiting for some one to purchase them for a restoration ordeal, some are in some ones barn (A Gold Mine In Some One’s Back Yard) for a restoration ordeal, an of course to hold out for a little extra cash to put into one's back pocket! // Of course; some will eventuality end up in museums un-licensed of course, an some find there way in other countries.

In My opinion I would say around 1/ 3ed. are left in all total..

You can try contacting the Pontiac Historic Services for a little extra info. On  your Bird!

As far as dive-train combo’s are concerned you need to look at some Axle Codes-
(AC's)/// And Reguular Production Option Codes-(RPO's)

  Example:

AC's                       RPO's

6PY = 3.08 – Posi = GU4
6PZ = 3.23 – Posi = GU5
6PR = 3.42 – Posi = GU6
6JG = 3.08 – Std  = GU4
6JH = 3.23 – Std  = GU5
6JJ  = 3.42 – Std  = GU6   etc.

                                      Hope This Helps :)

I am a NFTAC, Member and I was at one time an auto mechanic working for a local GM dealer here in my home town back in the mid-to late '80's now  I currently enjoy working on my own Pontiac's especially on my '85 T/A // making maintenance repairs, repairs, modifications and performance modifications I also enjoy meeting and /or talking to other Firebird & T/A owners an get into technical debates;hopefully just as long as the debate's doesn't go into a to heated argument.
