Transmission Noise
« on: February 02, 2021, 04:08:17 PM »
Just wondering if anybody has an answer to my transmission question.

I have an ‘96 Trans Am auto 4L60E tranny. A few weeks before winter storage I was out for a short drive and a few times I shifted from park to drive it clunked hard into gear.

It then shifted normal from gear to gear. I only drove it a few more times before I stored it and the tranny worked normal. Does anybody know why the tranny clunked into drive. Will this problem cause more issues this summer? Any comments would be great!

I think it may be the u-joints or too much backlash in rear end.

It doesn’t sound like an issue if it only did it cold and 1 time. Is the fluid level OK? Fluid probably drained out of a passage that would normally cushion the shift.
