Timing Chain Replacement

I broke the timing chain. I replaced it and all gears and it started up without coolant and all that. It made me very happy . Then added coolant to test drive to make sure everything's OK and it started leaking on driver's side on the ground and blowing white smoke from exhaust pipes like a train and oil is green.

I think it's a driver's side head gasket but don't understand how it would have  blown if it was OK before the timing chain broke and it didn't get hot . What do you think? I have a '96 LT1.

Anytime I drain the coolant for repairs I always start the engine after repairs before adding coolant back to the system. That way you don't have to drain it again if something is wrong, You don't have to run the engine long.

It sounds like when you broke your timing chain, you damaged the head with the valves. More than likely you will need a new set of heads, or at least redone.
