'79 Trans Am proper engine color
« on: April 29, 2007, 07:08:52 PM »
I have a '79 Trans Am. It had a 403 engine but someone put in a 455 Olds engine which is a metallic blue. What is the proper engine color and where do I find it? Can't find that color in Duplicolor, if its right.

HI: Dave

Giving That Pontiac Engine Some Color!

The following color for the Pontiac engine is as follows:

1977-1982 All    GM Corporate Blue \* = Color Part Number

Try the following suppliers:

Classic Industries      \ *62030  (www.classicindustries.com )

Plasti-Kote                  \*221     (Found at your local auto parts store)

VHT Paints                  \*SP-135 (Found at your local auto parts store)

Note: The paints are available at most local parts stores but the aftermarket GM blue usually varies from original GM blue, this has been confirmed by some owners of original GM painted Engines; however it has been speculated that Pontiac L78 and W72 engines were painted a different blue anyway with paint available, but checking these engine colors against genuine GM engine paint samples to verify that the GM corporate blue is correct.

                 Hope This Helps. ;D

I am a NFTAC, Member and I was at one time an auto mechanic working for a local GM dealer here in my home town back in the mid-to late '80's now  I currently enjoy working on my own Pontiac's especially on my '85 T/A // making maintenance repairs, repairs, modifications and performance modifications I also enjoy meeting and /or talking to other Firebird & T/A owners an get into technical debates;hopefully just as long as the debate's doesn't go into a to heated argument.
