I am in research mode to update my my '78 bone stock survivor Red Bird. I am looking to update the shocks. Any suggestions. Thanks.

I would suggest getting adjustable shocks. I found that the stiffest setting is best for the front and the softest setting was perfect for the rear. My car handles great, and helps to keep the rear planted to the ground instead of hoping around.

If those settings are not to your liking you can adjust them instead of buying new shocks.
