new member, need 83 TA undercarriage help
« on: October 17, 2007, 11:06:20 PM »
I have an all original 83 Trans Am I bought for $200 runs great, but the undercarriage is rotted out. There are some holes in the frame, nothing huge, but it definately needs replaced. The floor boards are shot as well. My question is, I have a guy who can weld the new floor pans in place, but is it possible to get a decent frame from a junkyard or something and have a bodyshop replace the frame? The car has sentimental value to me and I just can't bring myself to sell it for parts. This is my last ditch effort on saving the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

HI: New Member!! / And Welcome

“Repairs on a 83 Trans Am”
Frame??

Just so where driving down the same road, basically third generation cars don't have frames per-say they are of a uni-body construction unless you mean Front Suspension Cross Member Assembly, Cross Member, Side Rails, various Brackets, Supports etc., Transmission support etc.(some Lehman’s terms, Engine Sub-frame / Engine chasse)

As far as body parts are concerned floor-pans, (Under Body Pan Assembly includes stiffeners),Longitudinal Reinforcement and most other body parts (Chassis Metal), you may want to try Classic Industries for many of your body part restoration needs

 Classic Industries at: www.classicindustries.com

Or Year One at: www.yearone.com

Or The Paddock for a Floor-Pan Kit.

The Paddock at: www.paddockparts.com

                                            Hope This Helps  :)

I am a NFTAC, Member and I was at one time an auto mechanic working for a local GM dealer here in my home town back in the mid-to late '80's now  I currently enjoy working on my own Pontiac's especially on my '85 T/A // making maintenance repairs, repairs, modifications and performance modifications I also enjoy meeting and /or talking to other Firebird & T/A owners an get into technical debates;hopefully just as long as the debate's doesn't go into a to heated argument.
