vin help

hello all, im new here, my name is clint. i have a 79 firebird with an olds 403. im trying to get as much info on that car as possible. for instance, is it a trans am? etc.

also, the vin is confusing me. i have the haynes manual for the car and it doesn't match up. my vin is 2w87w9n196477. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

From your VIN number, here is what I get:

2 = Pontiac
W = Trans Am
87 = 2 Door Coupe
W = Pontiac 301 engine
9 = 1979
N = Built in Norwood, Ohio
196477 = Pontiac Production Number.
