Pontiac-Oakland Museum

Pontiac - Oakland Museum

Tim Dye, director of the new Pontiac-Oakland Automobile Museum and Resource Center, announced that on Friday, July 22, 2011, the museum will be open between 4 PM and 9 PM for a fundraising Sneak Preview. The preview will allow guests to see the museum at a leisurely pace, and meet some of the VIPs who will be speaking at the opening day ceremonies on July 23rd. Light snacks and drinks will be provided.

The Pontiac-Oakland Museum in Pontiac, Illinois will be home to 15 classic and antique Oakland and Pontiac cars, thousands of artifacts from dealer promotional items to signs, posters, and sales training aids, and an entire library filled with automotive-related print materials. The museum is located at 205 North Mill Street in Pontiac, Illinois.

According to Dye, “The Sneak Preview will allow people to see the museum before the expected crowds on opening day, and meet such automobile and Pontiac car history notables as Bill Porter, former Chief Designer for the Pontiac Motor Division and Jim Wangers, known to car lovers as the “Godfather of the GTO.” Both Wangers and Porter will be presenting seminars on Saturday after the Opening Ceremonies. Other distinguished visitors have been invited to the Sneak Preview, but their attendance has not yet been confirmed.

Tickets for the Sneak Preview are priced at $20 per person. Tickets can be purchased online in advance for the Thursday, July 21st Community Picnic, and/or the Friday, July 22nd Sneak Preview. To purchase advance tickets, go to the Pontiac Tourism website: www.visitpontiac.org.
